Brief introduction of Croucher Foundation (website)
Since the early 1980s, the Croucher Foundation has annually selected highly promising young researchers from Hong Kong, under the Croucher awards scheme, to enable them to pursue postgraduate or postdoctoral studies in international premier scientific institutions. These young people were selected under a very stringent procedure conducted by expert scientists, and they are crème de la crème of the younger generation of the Hong Kong scientific community. The badge of the Croucher alumni is therefore a symbol of genuine quality and prestige in the scientific profession.
The Croucher alumni are able to contribute to not only just science but also to related walks of life in Hong Kong. Because of their status, the Croucher alumni are collectively a strong force that could be potentially most powerful in the promotion of causes related to science and technology in Hong Kong, particularly in addressing the needs of scientists in common, in a place where there is notably no ministry of science in the government and without a policy in science.
